Doug Houghton is President and founder of Acorn Construction Company and has 40 + years experience in all phases of commercial and industrial construction ranging from $20,000.00 to $15,000,000.00. Mr. Houghton's successful projects include numerous projects for various Federal, State and local agencies including; Fremont School District Re-2, McClave School District Re-2, Colorado Department of Corrections, Colorado Department of Transportation, Colorado Historical Society, City of Pueblo, City of Canon City, City of La Junta, City of Trinidad, Colorado Bureau of Investigation, Colorado State Fair, University of Southern Colorado, Pueblo Community College, Trinidad State Jr. College, Pueblo School District number 60, Pueblo School District number 70, Transportation Technology Center, Goodrich Corp., the Pueblo Depot Activity, El Pueblo Boys and Girls Adolescent Treatment Center, and Colorado Bluesky Enterprises.
Doug founded Acorn Construction in April 1978. The Pueblo Chamber of Commerce and the City of Pueblo honored Acorn Construction as the “Small Business of the year” in 1986. Doug personally supervises all aspects of our construction projects from the beginning to the end, which includes: contract negotiations, project bidding and estimating, project management, scheduling, field personnel, cost accounting, and project close-out.
Doug was named “1999 General Contractor of the Year” by the Pueblo General Contractors Association. He is a current member and Past-President of Pueblo General Contractors Association and Pueblo Home Builders Association. Doug is also a member of the Pueblo Economic Development Corp. (PEDCO), Canon City General Contractors Association and the Design Build Institute of America (DBIA).
